New: Check SEO, AEO and GEO signals directly in Chrome See How It Works
AEO Checker for Page-Level Answer Readiness
An AEO checker reviews whether a webpage presents information in a format that search engines and AI-assisted answer systems can identify, understand and extract.
AI Rank Inspector is a Chrome extension that audits direct-answer clarity, question coverage, content structure and other page-level Answer Engine Optimisation signals directly in the browser.
What Is an AEO Checker?
An AEO checker evaluates how clearly a webpage answers the question behind a search, rather than only whether it ranks for one.
Traditional SEO analysis can confirm that a keyword appears in the title, headings and body copy. An AEO audit goes further by checking whether the page states a usable, self-contained answer, in a format an answer engine can extract or draw from.
A page can discuss a topic at length and still lack:
- A concise, direct answer near the relevant heading
- Coverage of the specific questions a reader is likely to ask
- Clear steps or lists where a process is described
- A comparison table where options are being weighed
- A logical heading hierarchy that separates one section from the next
What AI Rank Inspector Checks
Direct-Answer Clarity
Checks whether a page’s main question is followed by a specific, self-contained answer rather than a long lead-in that delays it.
Question Coverage
Reviews whether headings reflect real questions a reader is likely to have, rather than generic labels.
Definitions
Identifies terms or concepts that need a short, precise explanation before more detail follows.
Lists and Steps
Checks whether processes and groups of related information are presented in a scannable, extractable format.
Comparison Tables
Flags opportunities to organise a genuine comparison, without forcing every topic into a table.
Content Structure
Reviews how sections relate to each other and whether the heading hierarchy supports a clear reading order.
Supporting FAQs
Reviews whether FAQs answer genuinely distinct questions rather than repeating the main content.
Passed, Review and Failed Checks
Each AEO check returns one of three results.
Passed
The page clearly meets the check, for example a direct answer positioned near its heading.
Review
The element is present but may need a human judgement call, such as a borderline or partially buried answer.
Failed
The element is missing entirely, such as no answer to the page’s main question anywhere in the content.
Page-Level Readiness Versus External AI Visibility
An AEO audit reviews what’s observable on the page itself: the answers, headings and structure a reader or a system encounters. That’s different from external AI visibility — whether a specific answer engine actually chooses to cite, quote or surface that page for a specific query.
Improving page-level readiness is something you can act on directly. It cannot confirm that any particular platform will select, quote or cite the page afterwards — that depends on factors outside the page itself.
What the AEO Score Cannot Guarantee
An AEO audit identifies whether a page contains clear, structured, extractable answers. It does not guarantee:
- Featured snippet selection
- Google rankings
- AI Overview inclusion
- ChatGPT, Gemini or other AI-platform citations
- An increase in traffic
Selection by any specific answer engine depends on factors beyond one page — competing pages, authority signals, exact query phrasing and platform systems that change over time.
AEO Checker Versus SEO Checker
| SEO checker | AEO checker |
|---|---|
| Reviews titles, metadata and indexability | Reviews the clarity and position of direct answers |
| Checks keyword use and topic relevance | Checks question coverage against likely reader questions |
| Inspects links, headings and images | Inspects answer blocks, lists, steps and extractable formats |
| Supports discoverability and crawlability | Supports answer-focused content preparation |
The two work together rather than replacing one another — see the on-page SEO checker for the discoverability side of this.

FAQs
Is an AEO checker the same as an SEO checker?
No. An SEO checker focuses on discoverability — titles, metadata, indexability. An AEO checker focuses on whether a discoverable page clearly answers its main question. See the comparison above.
Does a high AEO score guarantee my page will be cited by ChatGPT or Google?
No. The score reflects observable page-level readiness signals only. No tool can guarantee selection, citation or inclusion by a specific answer engine.
Do I need to add an FAQ section to pass the AEO audit?
Not necessarily. FAQs are one of several supporting formats the audit reviews, and only count where they add genuinely new information beyond the main content.
Can I audit a competitor’s page?
Yes. The extension audits whatever page is open in the browser, including competitor pages, as long as it’s publicly accessible.
What’s the difference between AEO and GEO checks?
AEO checks focus on answer clarity and question coverage. GEO checks focus on entity clarity, sourcing and trust signals. See the GEO checker for that side of the audit.
